Artist Statement
The emotional tone of this piece contrasts the feelings of dread and relief by employing a palette that incorporates blacks and dark violets, symbolizing weight, with soft golds and pale greens representing hope and relief. The top half embodies dread with its deep, oppressive colors arranged in a descending stair-like pattern, creating a sense of pressure and heaviness. The bottom half transitions to a crosshatch of lighter colors, suggesting calmness and relief, with asymmetrical placements that evoke moments of interruption or release. The collision occurs where the stark difference between heavy darks and light pastels creates emotional tension—a dialogue between despair and hope. This layout captures a narrative of struggle and gradual escape, reinforcing the abstract nature of the seed.
