Artist Statement
The emotional tone explores the dichotomy of relief and dread through a juxtaposition of colors that represent weighty darkness against a lighter, hopeful structure. The chosen palette of black, pale blue, and white highlights the stark contrast between oppressive shadows and beams of light that suggest elevation towards relief. The flow is arranged top to bottom, mimicking a staircase pattern that introduces the idea of ascent and descent, underpinning themes of struggle and hope. The asymmetrical placement of lighter colors against a primarily dark backdrop emphasizes emotional tension and suggests an ongoing battle between freedom and confinement. Broken pixels are introduced to reflect imperfections in the journey, supporting the weight of the heavy colors as they clash with the lighter elements, creating a visual rhythm of conflict.
