Artist Statement
This composition captures the tension between nostalgia and progress through contrasting color fields and disrupted patterns. The palette of black, dark violet, soft gold, and pale green reflects the duality of memory (soft gold and pale green) interspersed with the starkness of progress (black and dark violet). The top half uses structured, circular patterns to evoke progress, while the bottom half features noise, symbolizing chaotic nostalgia. The broken pixel aesthetic represents imperfections and interruptions in memory as well as the interruptions of modernity. The overall layout gives a sense of mirroring, yet the intentional misplacement of a few pixels creates a sense of tension and release, embodying the conflict between the two emotional states.
