Artist Statement
The emotional tone navigates the interplay between longing and resolve, using deep wine to represent the weight of longing and warm ivory to convey the soothing nature of resolve. The chosen palette creates a dynamic tension, with the ash gray offering a neutral backdrop for reflection and the soft gold lightening moments of clarity and hope. The main contrast appears at the heart of the grid where longing’s dense braid intersects with the scattering echo from resolve, creating a visual collision that speaks to repair and damage. The broken pixels are dispersed within the island, introducing intentional disruptions that echo the themes of imperfection and fragility present within the context of a 'keyhole', represented here through the spatial dynamics rather than literal shapes. The balance of negative space enhances the emotional weight, suggesting that tranquility can exist even amidst disarray.
