Artist Statement
The artwork encapsulates the emotional pull between envy and gratitude, manifested through a contrast of dark and light hues. The palette, consisting of navy and black for depth and dim cyan for a softer counter, creates a tension between looming feelings of envy (darkness) and the lighter vibrations of gratitude. The layout emphasizes a split horizontal approach, with the top half embodying the dense, jagged pattern of "teeth", while the bottom flows gently with a 'rain' texture, illustrating an ebbing motion of rising hope against the deep-rooted fear. Surfaces collide and almost mirror each other, but with crucial breaks where broken pixels interject, symbolizing emotional imperfection and the messy reality of these emotions. The piece contains negative space to breathe, ensuring that the weight of each emotional aspect doesn’t overwhelm but instead balances its opposite, suggesting a moment of reflection amidst chaos.
