Artist Statement
This composition explores the duality of longing and resolve through color and pattern. The palette of warm 'red oxide' and 'small orange' contrasts with the cool tones of 'blackened plum' and 'iron gray'. This juxtaposition suggests emotional tension, where the warm, vibrant hues represent longing and aspiration, while the darker tones symbolize resolve and the weight of reality. The patterns 'hinge' and 'stairs' interact, with the warm colors climbing in a rising formation, interrupted by darker shades that create a sense of descent or obstruction, embodying the concept of a 'rising signal'. Intentional broken pixels disrupt the flow, creating an impression of imperfections and scars, illustrating the beauty in flaws and the process of repair over time. The overall grid conveys a stark balance of hope and reality, maintaining negative space to enhance the emotional impact.
