Artist Statement
This piece embodies a conflict between the emotions of envy and gratitude. The dark shades at the center represent envy, creating a protective and oppressive quality, while the lighter edges evoke gratitude, suggesting openness and hope. The palette, featuring black, lime, electric blue, and magenta, captures this duality, with black creating depth and tension and lime and blue offering relief and vibrancy. The soft edges create a contrast between the hard-stopping emotions at the center and the gentler influences at the periphery, emphasizing the interplay of rising versus falling feelings. The arrangement captures a sense of noise colliding against a silent tear, enhancing the emotional narrative without literal representation.
