Artist Statement
This piece embodies the tension between envy and gratitude through color, capturing layers of emotion. The palette of burnt orange, dark red, charcoal, and gold reflects the warmth of gratitude interlaced with the underlying chill of envy. The pattern utilizes a maze for envy, creating a sense of chaotic pressure in the edges, while the teethed structure symbolizes the sharp, sometimes jagged feelings of gratitude at the center. The contrast between the dense cluster of colors toward the edges and a balanced, lighter center communicates a journey from conflict to resolution, echoing the 'rising vs falling' theme inherent in the seed. Negative space is carefully utilized to allow the emotions to breathe, creating a compelling abstract narrative.
