Artist Statement
This piece captures the emotional dichotomy of nostalgia and progress through color and contrast. The chosen palette includes deep blues representing memory and muted purples reflecting fleeting moments, complemented by warm yellows and oranges symbolizing growth and optimism. The arrangement features weighty contrasts, with darker colors at the top creating a sense of gravity and lighter hues below suggesting release and forward momentum. This bottom-weighted layout speaks to the tension of 'rise vs. fall', evoking both a dripped flow of time and a targeting of the future against the perceived grid of the past. The use of patterns—maze-like in the upper sections for a nostalgic feel and flame-like in the lower sections to suggest progress—creates a dynamic interplay of full versus hollow spaces, emphasizing the emotional push and pull inherent in the theme.
