Artist Statement
This artwork explores the duality of softness versus severity through an interplay of color and pattern. The top four rows embody the softness with warm whites and subtle pinks, suggesting a gentle embrace, while the bottom rows sharply contrast with deep blacks and grays representing severity and structure. The chosen palette reflects the emotional tension: powder pink and warm white as calming, contrasted against carbon black and sharp crimson as intense and severe. The intersection of patterns — patchwork on top and stair-like severity below — suggests a collision of softer feelings interrupted by sudden severity, embodying an emotional struggle. The negative spaces allow for breathing room, maintaining clarity while ensuring visual tension remains palpable, thereby reflecting the pulse of this emotional landscape.
