Artist Statement
The emotional tone of this artwork reflects the struggle between defiance and submission, realized through a bold contrast of colors and patterns. The palette is formed by warm tones (including rose clay and warm shadow) juxtaposed with cooler hues (cool blue and distant lilac) to enhance the tension between these opposing emotions. The large central space represents 'defiance' while the surrounding pixels are softer, symbolizing 'submission'. The pattern creates a broken frame, with intentional leaks in the edges symbolizing the intrusion of each emotional state into the other, thus allowing a glimpse of the opposite feeling. The grid presents an echoing flow where the edges are static while the colors vibrate against one another, creating a compelling narrative of struggle and interaction between both emotional realms.
