Artist Statement
This artwork explores the emotional tension of joy versus grief through contrasting warm and cool tones. The palette mixes bright yellows and oranges that evoke warmth, against cooler deep blues and muted purples, symbolizing grief. The zigzag and checker patterns unfold across the canvas, showing a juxtaposition between the structured order of joy and the chaotic edges of grief, with burned edges adding an element of destruction. Broken pixels create an imperfection that suggests emotional fragility and echoes the concept of machine emotion, where the interplay of structured patterns contrasts with the raw, unpredictable nature of human feelings. The intentional placement of darker blocks in the center against lighter edges creates a focal collision point, visually communicating conflict within harmony.
