Artist Statement
This composition captures the emotional tension between relief and dread through contrasting patterns and colors. The dark tones represent the weight of dread while the lighter mints and golds signify relief breaking through. I used a barcode pattern for relief, echoing a structure amidst chaos, and a hinge pattern embodying the weight of dread that holds the top-heavy composition. The collision occurs in the center where the patterns disrupt one another, creating a focal point suggesting a forced release breaking the oppressive density.
