Artist Statement
This piece explores the tension between nostalgia and progress through a palette that juxtaposes deep darkness against fleeting light. The navy and black shades represent weight and depth, echoing nostalgia, while the single white and dim cyan impart feelings of progress and potential. A bottom-weighted structure aligns with the emotional weight of nostalgia while allowing lighter colors to drip down through the center, signifying the struggle and movement toward progress. The jagged edges invoke a sense of disruption, making the central tension palpable. Negative space is preserved to contrast dense clusters and highlight moments of calm amidst chaos, creating a dynamic emotional narrative.
