Artist Statement
The emotional tone contrasts joy's bright, spark-like quality against grief's fragmented, muted nature. The selected palette—yellow and orange for joy, deep blue, and muted purple for grief—utilizes warm colors to evoke lightness while cool tones suggest depth. The upper two rows utilize grid patterns to reflect harmony and joy, while the bottom half employs a ring pattern to encapsulate the heaviness of grief. This split horizontal layout allows for visual tension, as joy radiates from the center while grief envelops it, creating a dynamic push-pull feeling. The interplay of solid colors and broken pixels introduces imperfection and emotional complexity, capturing the essence of joy and grief in an abstract narrative.
