Artist Statement
This composition embodies the tension between joy and grief, reflected in the contrasting palette of vibrant yellows and oranges against muted purples and deep blues. The top four rows, representing joy, are lighter and more dynamic, while the bottom rows embody a heavier, more subdued feel of grief. The symmetry of the layout is disrupted by the pattern shifts from rhythmic rings of joy to targeted placements of grief, creating a visual pulse. The inclusion of broken pixels adds a layer of imperfection, reflecting the complexity of emotions, while the negative space enhances the feeling of isolation in grief. The main collision occurs centrally, where the brightness of joy interrupts the somber tones below, inviting a contemplation of emotional depth and balance.
