Artist Statement
This composition embodies the emotional tension between defiance and submission through a palette of red, black, pale blue, and white. The bright red offers a stark contrast to the subdued blacks, accentuating the tension. The pattern deploys a 'target' motif for defiance at the center, while the 'thread' pattern of soft blue and whites weaves quietly around it, creating the illusion of an inward spiral. The main collision occurs in the center where the vibrant red interrupts the calm of surrounding colors, embodying a struggle between radiance and retreat while ensuring some negative space to reflect emptiness.
