Artist Statement
The composition embodies a tension between grief and joy, leaning on two emotional states represented by color transitions. The palette of bright yellows and deep blues reflects the kind of contrasting emotions—where warm hues battle cool tones in a nearly symmetrical layout, disrupted by intentional imperfections through fragmented pixels. The layout flows from the bottom to the top, suggesting a rise from grief into the lightness of joy, while a clear division introduces an echo of chaos against order. The use of modular patterns and a stair-step formation introduces a rhythm that mirrors the journey of emotion, where layers of joy face interruptions by streaks of grief, creating a sense of depth and complexity. The edges remain hard, delineating the stark differences between the two emotional experiences, while maintaining subtle negative space to allow for reflection.
