Artist Statement
This composition embodies a contrast between 'longing' and 'resolve', with an overarching theme of broken connection and repair. The palette of stain brown, ash gray, warm ivory, soft gold, and deep wine reflects the tension and complexity of these emotions. The interaction between the spark and stairs patterns creates a rhythmic flow from the top to bottom, suggesting a journey through this emotional landscape. The broken pixels introduce imperfection, enhancing the sense of longing, while the mostly contained arrangement speaks to resolve. The main collision of colors occurs in the center, where the warm gold disrupts the cooler tones, symbolizing the break in longing and the shift toward resolve. The negative space emphasizes the void felt in longing, yet points to new beginnings that also reside in the suggestions of resolution.
