Artist Statement
The emotional tone reflects a conflict between vitality and decay—'spark' symbolizes bursts of life, while 'ash' denotes the remnants of what was. The chosen palette of pinks and grays illustrates this duality: pink represents the vibrancy of sparks, contrasting sharply with the subdued tones of gray that evoke ashen residue. The main collision occurs diagonally across the square, where the checker-like pattern of pink against a shatter pattern of gray creates tension and visual interest, echoing the push and pull between growth and restraint. Broken pixels enhance the sense of imperfection and turbulence, while maintaining moments of quiet negative space. This composition embodies the struggle of memory and erasure, shaped by the abstract concepts rather than literal imagery.
