Artist Statement
This piece embodies the struggle between fear and hope through contrasting colors and patterns. The dark palette features black and dark violet, representing fear, while the soft gold and pale green suggest hope. The diagonal flow symbolizes an upward movement from fear (bottom left) toward hope (top right), creating a sense of escape. The jagged, 'teeth' pattern in darker areas collides with the smoother, 'crack' patterns in lighter areas, illustrating the tension of emotion. The presence of broken pixels adds imperfection to the hope, suggesting that even in light, there are shadows. The overall composition maintains negative space to heighten the sense of isolation and pressure, allowing the viewer to feel the emotional contrast vividly.
