Artist Statement
The emotional tone oscillates between the sense of relief (lightness) and dread (heaviness). The palette of sepia, tan, dust gray, and faded blue represents the organic weight of emotional burdens against serene relief. The primary contrast lies in the dense lower rows, filled with darker shades that rise towards lighter tones, suggesting an ascent amidst gloom. The arrangement of brighter squares serves as moments of hope, while the broken pixels reflect imperfections in the journey, lending it a human touch. The pattern shifts from the structured checkerboard of relief to a more chaotic, rainy texture illustrating dread—highlighting sections that interrupt the symmetry and create feelings of uncertainty. The ascent aligns with the 'rising_signal' layout, embodying the battle between a weighted reality and the desire for elevation.
